Bikes are Best

by Steven van Groningen on 27 November, 2010

This is a guest post by my friend D. Tramp. Not only do we work and live in the same part of town, we also share a passion for bikes.

My Favorite Place

The best place to take a nap in the afternoon is this round field with grass in front of the tall green building. This place is hard to get to because there are cars circling it most of the time, but our leader is pretty smart and knows when they stop and then we go over. Not even humans do this and that is what makes it such a great place, nobody bothers us. I like stretching out, lying on the grass, the smell of fresh grass and moist earth in my nose and the afternoon sun warming me up.

My name is Tramp, but most people call me Dog. The human said I should change my name into D. Tramp and he thought that funny. I don’t understand him most of the time. But that is all right, he doesn’t understand me either. We still seem to like each other.

I am having all these thoughts while dozing at our favorite place. The constant humming of cars driving past, the cool and damp grass, the sun on my fur. My pals are lying a few meters away ready to fool around whenever we feel like it. This is the life. The only minus is that bikes don’t get to this side of the road so that I don’t get to chase them much over here. They all stay at the far end of the circle and don’t come close. There aren’t many to start with.

Bikes are Best

I like chasing bikes, they are the best. Pedestrians are no fun, they start shouting or throwing stick and stones at me when I bark at them. Cars are the opposite, they don’t pay any attention at all when we chase them. Arrogant bunch. But bikes are great fun, they always start going faster to moment you have a go at them and they make it really difficult to grab a leg, just when you want to grab a leg, it starts moving in the other direction. Great fun. Unfortunately there are not that many of them in Bucharest. The human told me that other countries have many more bikes but dogs are not supposed to chase them. What is the use of having them then? I don’t understand the human most of the time.

The Poor Humans

I wonder what all those humans in the tall green building are doing all day, no grass, no sun, no fresh air, no place to run. There are bikes in front of the building but they don’t use them a lot. I feel sorry for them. Humans are not free like we are, they are locked inside most of the time. I have never been inside a building, but understand that some dogs are living inside, with humans. Sometimes I see a dog pulling a human out of his house on a leash. Without the dog the human would spend even more time indoors. I don’t understand humans. You never know what to expect from them, some of them are really nice and give you food. Others are really nasty and they shout at you and try to kick you without any reason. Life is full of surprises.

Wait a minute, I see something from the corner of my eye, is that a bike…… ?  I am off.

Hi Tramp,

I am Blacky Ioan’s dog. I agree with you and I can add that humans take things to serious, they work to much and they barely live the present. They seem to focus on their future plans and goals but very rarely BE in the moment.

Whereas we, brother Tramp, the moment, this moment is the essence of life. Maybe they should learn from us to relax more.

Another point I agree is that I grab Ioan and take him to breathe fresh air every day twice.

Sometimes I wonder what would he do as a physical activity. I believe that I am getting a great deal from my exchange.

I walk Ioan twice daily and I get instead plenty of love and caress…

I wish you peace brother… :)

Popularizati asemenea actiuni pe blogul dvs si promit sa nu va acuz de self promotion, sau mai rau, de pretentii pedagogice.

A very sensitive opinion. Your nice friend D. Tramp will be an example to follow for many of us… We have the opportunity to prove that we are not that lazy and selfish as we seem: maybe some of Tramp’s friends will be adopted. This would definetly be a life changing experience!
I read the article only today, when we celebrate Saint Stefan’s Day in Romania. So…I wish you good luck and good health, if I may – a good thought from somebody doesn’t do any harm :)

Postul acesta mi-a placut in mod deosebit.
